FOCUS

The Conference aim is to discuss reasons of Croatian economic diplomacy status quo, which could be perceived as a troublesome stagnation. The fact is that there are differences in the understanding of Croatia's economic diplomacy job between those subjects who govern the state at the strategic level, and Croatian business community.

The classic instance of that misunderstanding is the evaluation of the efficiency of the economic diplomacy by comparison with Croatia export data only, although that logic is pretty problematic. The economic diplomacy of the state should not be blamed for the Croatian export results, because the main reason for that lies in Croatian home problems. If the business community sees Croatia's economic diplomacy only as a "Mini -Me" of its foreign trade departments that diplomacy is doomed to fail.

Furthermore the problem is missing of communication vitality among those who shapes Croatia's foreign policy, makes, and researches it.

Besides of that Croatia has very fragile culture of understanding of the economic diplomacy based on facts, researching and hearing of experts.

The Conference wants to point out that shallow insight in current capacity of Croatia's economic diplomacy essentially limits efforts for its improvement.

WHY

The Conference wants to emphasize that Croatian state has to define more clearly its strategic aims in the field of shaping, organising, and paying the economic diplomacy job.

That is important because Croatia' s existing trend is blending of the economic diplomacy led by the state with commercial diplomacy led by companies. According to that the economic diplomacy of state is losing its strategic dimension.

The strategic use of economy in foreign policy of state is based on principal that government particularly helps those companies which products, and development aims are coherent whit its.

Many developed or developing sates use that sophisticated way of foreign policy subventions.

WHO IS IT FOR?

For the public, academic and business circles, MPs, students, civil associations, political parties, government administration and media.
The Conference enables the citizens to understand easier the features of the age they live in and the necessity for adjusting to the economic globalisation, which doesn't have to be bad.

THE ORGANIZER

The Geoeconomic Forum is Croatian think tank specialized for the issues of foreign policy and processes of integration in Croatia and South-East Europe. The Forum expresses its orientation through interconnection of interests of diplomacy, economy, and national security.

Since we live in integration times its every conference considers important to provide and the spread of knowledge about processes of integration and foreign policies which have power to affect the Republic of Croatia, the Region and every day life of their citizens.

The Forum encourages that kind of Croatian economic culture that gives the advantage to the social solidarity.
